Many expatriates coming from different parts of the world don’t know which type of driving license they should apply according to their job and needs; therefore, we have elaborated all types of driving license available in Saudi Arabia.

Private Driving License

The most common type of driving license which most of the Saudis and expatriates have is the private driving license. This particular driving license allows you to drive only private vehicles which means that you are not allowed to drive any public vehicle with it.

Public Driving License

If somebody wants to drive a public vehicle in Saudi Arabia such as taxi or bus, you will have to apply for a public driving license. Unlike private driving license, the minimum age to apply for this kind of driving license is 21 years. Moreover, the profession on your iqama must require a public driving license.

In other words, you can only apply for a public driving license if the profession on your iqama requires a public driving license. An accountant cannot apply for this type of driving license in Saudi Arabia.

Heavy Vehicle Driving License

If your job requires driving heavy vehicles such as trucks and heavy mobile equipment, you must take a heavy vehicle driving license from Saudi Arabia. Apart from the general requirements to get a driving license, the profession on your Iqama must require you to drive a heavy vehicle to apply for this type of driving license in Saudi Arabia.

Motorcycle Driving License

It is quite rare to find any motorcycle riders in Saudi Arabia as most people prefer cars due to the fact that affordability is not a big issue. The minimum age of the applicant to apply for the motorcycle driving license in Saudi Arabia is 16 years only. You will also be required to produce a good conduct certificate from an official authority to apply for this type of driving license in Saudi Arabia.

Diplomatic Driving License

The fifth type of driving license available in Saudi Arabia is called diplomatic driving license and it is only available for diplomats. If you are a diplomatic official, you can just replace your country’s driving license with the Saudi driving license.

Women Driving License

Women can apply for a driving license and drive their vehicles in Saudi Arabia.
